What is the Primary function of HUD?

HUD was established in 1965 to support the housing market and and home ownership. It is an Agency of the Federal Government and headed by the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

The Primary function of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is to assure everyone has access to Fair, Equal Housing and to provide housing and community development assistance.

HUD enforces the Fair Housing Act and offers housing assistance through the Community Development Block Grant and the Housing Choice Voucher program. The Fair Housing Act prevents discrimination in housing based on Sex, Race, Color, National Origin and Religion.
